Latest Progress on Danny Phantom Cosplay

Here is the newest screenshot of my Danny Phantom Cosplay.  I just received my boots by mail, I am very pleased! So far I'm liking how the costume is shaping up. A personal goal for myself is to lose at least ten pounds by Anime Central.  I am still waiting for my white wig from Arda which as long as it arrives in March or at the very latest early April, I will be happy. Other than that I need a white belt or strap of some sort for my waist.  Also I need to paint the "D" on my shirt which I intend to do so after my trip to Maui (this coming Monday!) I am up for any suggestions that any Danny Phantom fans may have.  Thanks everyone! - STVO

Video Review - Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Well after following some of your advice, I decided to make a video review of Ghost Rider 2, a movie I watched last week.  Here is my official review. After you watch it, please comment on here and or the Facebook page whether you prefer to see me do video or text reviews. While I had fun with the attempt at a video review, I must admit that I think it went a little too long. For the future of video reviews, I'll try to narrow it down to 5 minutes or less. Once again thank you for watching and supporting!

STVO Wire #4 (2/17/12)

Welcome to a new edition of STVO Wire!  Valentine’s Day has come and gone.  While I didn’t have a Valentine of my own, I had a great time with friends and was pleased with a news story that made me very delighted in the world of wrestling.  Anyway, I’m going to talk about a few news stories from this week, share my predictions for this weekend’s Elimination Chamber PPV, and give an examination of this week’s movies!  Let’s begin!

DA NEWS

·      Wrestling: From 411 Mania - Dixie Carter, officially announces via Twitter that former head of TNA/Impact Wrestling creative, Vince Russo has officially left the company.  Dixie tweeted the following, “TNA and Vince Russo have mutually parted ways as of this week. The separation is amicable and professional.  We are glad for the opportunity to have worked together and wish each other nothing but good luck and success in the future.”

My Take:

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!  In my opinion, if there has been one major thing holding back Impact Wrestling for years, it was Vince Russo. Sure he has been a contributor to the success of the Attitude Era of the WWE, but he tends to overbook storylines and matches.  Especially in TNA with a lot of wacky finishes.  The recent London tapings and even the recent PPV, TNA Against All Odds were all solid wrestling shows.  I was unable to catch last night’s Impact Wrestling, but seemed like a decent show from what I have read.  I think Bruce Prichard as the head of TNA creative has been an excellent decision and hope it continues to improve the TNA product as a whole.

·      TV/Animation: From IGN - On March 3rd Cartoon Network will be debuting their new Saturday morning block “DC Nation.”  It will feature new episodes of the series Young Justice as well as new series “Green Lantern,” but it will features animated shorts about heroes such as Plastic Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.  The shorts will be done by Lauren Faust (Power Puff Girls and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) and Aardman Studios (Wallace & Grommit).  Also featured will be the return of the Teen Titans.

My Take: From the screen shots I have seen of Green Lantern, I’m kind of mixed on that show.  It has somewhat of a sleek design but reminds me of early 3D computer animated programs.  From what I have seen it lacks the detail of other programs, but I am willing to give the show a chance as long as it delivers in story.  I have heard nothing but positive about Young Justice and while I have only seen one episode, I was very pleased.  I’m not a Teen Titans fan at all, but I’m sure there will be many happy fans that it’s returning, if only in shorts.  Why don’t I like Teen Titans you ask?  Personally I never felt the anime/chibi style worked for a DC Universe show. Also Batman’s towel boy as the leader of a group of Superheroes would be like giving Big the Cat of Sonic the Hedgehog is own video game.  I really like the animation of Aardman Studios and while I’m skeptical on them doing works on a hero such as Batman, they could be amusing shorts. I kind of feel like that style of animation shouldn’t be used for the DC Universe, at least not for big name heroes like Batman.  Overall, I will try and give the DC Nation block a view, if only once.

·      Music: From New York Daily News - Former couple Rihanna and Chris Brown are working on a new song together called “Birthday Cake (Remix).”  For those who may not know, Chris Brown has had his restraining order from Rihanna lifted from him last year for his 2009 assault charges on her.

My Take:

This Week at The Movies
Now in 6 Words or less, my thoughts on the movies coming out this weekend!

·      The Secret World of Arriety: It’s Miyazaki, it can’t be bad?
·      Ghost Rider – Spirit of Vengeance: Hope it’s not like the first.
·      This Means War: All this shit for Reese Witherspoon?
·      Undefeated: Not interested but could be decent.

So What Am I Doing?

Currently Playing:
·      Legend of Zelda – Skyward Sword: Slacking again, but still want to play more.
·      Resident Evil Revelations: This game is one of the top reasons I can recommend for anyone to go out and buy a 3DS. A new from the ground up Resident Evil game featuring a very interesting story, amazing graphics, and surprisingly solid controls for a portable video game.  I have not yet bought a Circle Pad Pro but I have been just fine with the standard controls of the 3DS for this game.
·      DDR: Always playing.

Watching:
·      In-Time: Was a decent movie.  The concept of living off of time was very cool and there were definitely some good action scenes throughout the movie.  It wasn’t phenomenal, but I could recommend it.  7 out of 10.
·      The Cell: This was a weird movie. To be honest, I stopped watching after awhile and decided to just return it.
·      The League Season 2: This show is hilarious!

Coming Up:
·      Following this post, I plan to order my white boots for my Danny Phantom costume.  I hope to post a progress or even a completion update sometime in March.
·      I just bought a camcorder from Best Buy, but they don’t have my camera in stock so I will have to pick it up on the 21st.  I am in plans of possibly making a video next week, what the topic will be, I’m not exactly sure but it will either be with my new camera or just webcam, stay tuned.
·      Less than 2 weeks away from Hawaii! I’m hoping I can shoot a few sights there and do something creative with them.  Currently intend to do update from Hawaii, maybe if only through my Facebook Fan Page.
·      Looking for more races in the area. If you are around Chicago or the neighboring suburbs, please let me know if you know of any races coming up as I am interested in signing up for some for my marathon training.

WWE Elimination Chamber Predictions
WWE Elimination Chamber is this weekend.  It’s the last Pay-Per-View prior to Wrestlemania and is the one that helps solidify both world championship matches.  We all know Sheamus won the Royal Rumble and is guaranteed a slot, so this weekend we will find out who he will be able to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship or the WWE Championship this weekend.  Unfortunately I will not be catching the Elimination Chamber this weekend due to an obligation among friends, but I will be reading results and curious to know who wins.

World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match: Daniel Bryan © vs. Big Show vs. The Great Khali vs. Santino Marella vs. Wade Barrett vs. Cody Rhodes: For those wondering why Randy Orton isn’t listed and Santino Marella is, well that’s because Randy Orton suffered and injury this Monday on Raw with his match with The Big Show.  He landed wrong when giving The Big Show an RKO.  He had a similar injury in December when working a falls count anywhere bout with Wade Barrett, so it isn’t too surprising that Randy Orton will be out.  I’m curious as to if he will make it to Wrestlemania now?

Anyway moving away from Randy Orton, I am disappointed that they will be using Santino Marella as nobody believes he has a chance at winning this match. And if WWE were to be wacky to actually have him win, many fans casual and the IWC would not be too happy I’m sure.  The Great Khali is another eyesore to this match because unless he has someone really good to work with him, he’s just boring to watch in the ring.  Having those in the match really show how thing the Smackdown roster for WWE really is in terms of star power.  Anyway, if those two are out of the match fairly quick, you have four superstars that actually can work so it shouldn’t be too bad of a match.  Right now I’m predicting for Daniel Bryan to retain and go forward to taking on Sheamus at Wrestlemania in the WHC match.  Like others have noted, this will be an amusing result as they were scheduled to have a United States Championship match at Wrestlemania last year and that ended up being bumped off the show into the dark match.
Who I Want To Win: Daniel Bryan     Who I Think Will Win: Daniel Bryan

WWE  Championship Elimination Chamber: CM Punk © vs. R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Chris Jericho vs. The Miz: I’m very sure this will be the better of the two Elimination Chamber matches.  Look at the line-up in this match and compare it to the Smackdown match.  For me I see two people I want to have a match at Wrestlemania and two people I could see winning.  The first person is the champion, CM Punk, retaining.  The second person is Chris Jericho.  Here’s how I see it for this match.  The Miz who I typed last on accident was the one person I forgot was actually in this match and right now through backstage politics is currently in the WWE’s doghouse.  I do not see The Miz winning this match or being in the world title scene for a while now.  Kofi and R-Truth may stand a better chance at winning than The Miz right now, but I just don’t see the WWE pulling the trigger with these two guys at the moment as Kofi has only returned to the main event/upper mid-card recently while it appears that WWE is going to try to make R-Truth a goofy mid-card face.  Nothing wrong with R-Truth being a comedic face, just saying.  Dolph Ziggler has a decent chance at winning.  He has been in the main event for sometime, he put on a great match with CM Punk last month at the Royal Rumble, and his mic skills and ring-work are on fire.  Right now though, it’s been hyped up prior to Jericho’s on-screen return and even in recent weeks of WWE television that they are interested doing a Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk match at Wrestlemania.  They could throw a curve ball with Dolph Ziggler but I just doubt it.  Anyway, my prediction will be that since last month we have had both champions retain their title, one belt will change hands.  Chris Jericho will end CM Punk’s 3-month title reign and become the new WWE Champion which in return will lead to CM Punk invoking his rematch clause at Wrestlemania this year.
Who I Want To Win: CM Punk or Chris Jericho
Who I Think Will Win: Chris Jericho

John Cena vs. Kane in an Ambulance Match: This match has too obvious a result.  I liked this feud at first but I’m not really sure why we needed Eve and Zack Ryder as a part of this feud.  Kane beating the crap out of Zack every week got kind of old.  I did feel bad for my broski Zack this Monday on Raw when Eve gave John Cena one hell of a kiss and then friend-zoned Zack. L  Anyway, the one thing I have liked in this feud is that while Cena has had advantages over Kane, Kane definitely has gotten the best of Cena on many different occasions.  I don’t foresee Kane making Cena embrace the hate this Sunday and I’m very well predicting we will see John Cena finally putting an end to Kane’s terror by putting him in an ambulance to put the feud to sleep.  As for Eve and Zack Ryder, they might be involved in or after the match somehow, don’t know, don’t care, as long as Cena and Kane put on a decent match to settle the score and we have a good series of build up for Wrestlemania 28 with The Rock vs. John Cena.
Who I Want To Win: John Cena (Don’t See What Good Kane Winning Does)
Who I Think Will Win: John Cena

WWE Divas Championship Match – Beth Phoenix © vs. Tamina Snuka: No longer known as just “Tamina”, she has earned a number one contenders shot at Beth Phoenix for the Butterfly title.  Normally I don’t give two craps about these matches, but I think there’s a possibility these two can pull off a decent match.  Beth Phoenix (with the exception of maybe Kharma or Natalya Neidhart) is the best woman on their current roster.  Tamina is the daughter of “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and she actually does have talent.  Here’s hoping they can put on a decent bout. As for the outcome, I see Beth retaining until Wrestlemania and something tells me, the dream women’s match of Kharma vs. Beth Phoenix will happen there, so why not have Beth retain?
Who I Want To Win: Beth Phoenix
Who I Think Will Win: Beth Phoenix

That’s all for this week’s edition of STVO Wire!  Thanks for reading and keep checking back on here and the Facebook page for more updates!

7 Women I Want As My Valentine

Valentine’s Day is here and there’s many mixed emotions going on. There are some happy couples ready to go out for a nice dinner and see a movie or perhaps stay at home to enjoy one another’s company. Some guys might be panicking because it’s the day is here and he waited until now (or found by reading this) that Valentine’s Day is today and needs to rush to the closest store to see what he can rummage for his sweetheart. Then there are several single men and women either dreading this day of mockery or perhaps trying to just ignore that it’s going on. Me? Well, while I am single and this has never really been my day, I’m not going to keep my head down. Instead, I’m looking for my own activities to do that night possibly with a couple friends and I think about the ideal woman I would like to meet.

With that said, let me tell you about 7 ideal women I would love to have as a date for Valentine’s Day. Each woman is from a different medium I enjoy and some aren’t physically tangible, but nonetheless they have some characteristics I like in a mate. I will be selecting one woman from each of the following: Video Games, Wrestling, Anime, TV (Live-Action), Comics, Movies (Live Action), and Music. So sit back and enjoy the ride as I tell you about seven lovely ladies.

1. Cammy from Super Street Fighter 2
Blond, strong, beautiful, and British. All very redeeming features of a gorgeous woman. She is a deadly but confused woman who can use a good man (where I come into play) in her life. You see, the American and Japanese versions of Street Fighter share two different stories of her. In the Japanese version of SSF2, she is supposedly an agent of the evil M. Bison but lost her memories while in battle. In the American version, she was once in a romantic relation with M. Bison but suffered from amnesia. Poor girl. Well, if Cammy were real, she could protect me from bad people while I can provide her a listening ear. Plus have you seen Cammy cosplayers?
AMAZING!

2. AJ Lee from the WWE

24-year-old WWE Superstar is a very wonderful choice of a woman for me. She has the girl next-door vibe, loves video games & comic books, and is a dog-person. On top of that, she’s in my favorite sport (well fake sport) of the WWE. Unfortunately, the 5’3” beauty is currently dating (in story line) current World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan. The man let her get run over by the over 500 pound Big Show last month and continues to put her in harms way! I would never do such a thing! AJ if you’re reading this, I’d say skip the tonight’s taping of Smackdown, fly out to O’Hare airport and I’ll take you out to the Cheesecake Factory and Gameworks.

WHOA! Okay Daniel, chill bro, I was kidding!

3. Haruko of Fooly Cooly
Here is another non-real and even non-human being. No, no, I’m not talking about an animal, but rather Haruko isn’t from planet Earth. What an amazing girl she is though. She rides a motorcycle, has pink hair, and can hit someone with a guitar onto his or her head that in time will release a robot out of their head! The only thing I question about her is why would she be hitting on a middle school boy when she is 19 years old??? Maybe on her planet that sort of stuff is legal, but this here is planet Earth. She can use an older guy in her life. I maybe older, but people have told me I act and think like a kid. Heck I will be cosplaying as one at this year’s Anime Central and have done so in the past.

4. 2nd Becky Connor from Roseanne

A lot of you are probably going to say, you like Roseanne? Well, yeah, as reluctant as I am sometimes to admit it, I think the show can be funny. For some reason as a kid, I was never fond of the first actress who played Becky (Lecy Goranson.) Is it just me, but when Sarah Chalke took over her role didn’t her character seem a lot sweeter? Also, no offense to Goranson, I happen to find Sarah Chalke more attractive as well. Honestly, some of the later episodes where Goranson and Chalke would take turn with the role. Sure Chalke’s version of Becky would get angry too but she seemed to not sound as angry as Goranson would. Let’s not forget that Sarah Chalke would also move onto the role of Dr. Elliott Reid on Scrubs, another character that would win my heart.

5. Harley Quinn of the Batman Franchise
Harley Quinn is a misunderstood woman. Originally a highly intelligent therapist (depending what series you’re viewing) she was manipulated by the criminal mind of the Joker. What can I say; lots of the good girls tend to go for the bad guys! Anyway, take a look at any variation of Harley Quinn, she’s hot, all her variations have a unique look, and she’s done something what several other characters made for TV couldn’t do: become a main story cannon character. Yes Harley Quinn is an evil lady, but she does evil so well! She carries a cartoonish hammer, she has a cute high-pitched voice, and she laughs so adorably after an evil heinous act is done. Could she turn me to the dark side? Er…. Uh… No! RISE ABOVE HATE!

6. Emmy Hasure from Mannequin

Jonathan Switcher AKA Andrew McCarthy was one lucky man in the 1987 movie Mannequin. When his life was looking down while working overnights as a stock boy at a clothing store, it starts to pick up in better ways both financially and romantically! This all goes thanks to a department store mannequin. Not just any mannequin, one that was formerly a princess in Ancient Egypt played by a young Kim Cattrall! Seriously, the movie may be corny, it was your typical cheesy 80s romantic comedy but it’s hilarious and I think most guys would love to be in that position! A swim suit model comes to life, thinks that despite your low paying job that you’re the best thing since sliced bread, and on top of that helps you go further in your career to vice president of such a large clothing store! Like they say, behind every great man, come a great woman, only this one is a princess turned mannequin. Yes, the critics hated the movie, but it did have a number one hit song featured in it:

7. Katy Perry
Really? Do I need to get into this one? She just broke it off with Russell Brand. Also look at her:

I rest my case.

That’s it for my Valentine’s Day desires. I hope whatever you choose to do today whether it’s sharing it with your loved one, searching for a Valentine, or polishing off a bottle of Jose Cuervo solo, be safe and have fun if you can! Also, be sure to check out the following:

Now before I end this article, I would like to pay my respects to two people who passed away:

- Adam Adamowicz: The designer behind Fallout 3 and Skyrim. Truthfully, I never played either game but I always felt both had a great look to the games and I know many of my friends who love the games! Thank you Adam for your contributions in gaming and May you rest in peace!

- Whitney Houston: I don’t believe I need to explain who she is. I would like to share that I think she was a very talented woman and it’s a real shame she had to leave us behind at only age 48. My condolences to her friends, family, and fans alike. I will end this update with a video of likely her most iconic video of many.

Movie Review Mania #1

So I’ve seen three movies this week (bringing my count of movies that I have seen in theaters this year to 5 alone, a bit much right?) and I’ve been putting off my review on two movies due to cosplay priorities and other laziness but here I am ready to type it out.  The first two movies I saw on Super Bowl Sunday. Why did I not watch the Super Bowl well three reasons: 1.) I’m not a big sports follower/fan in general, 2.) I root for Chicago sports teams when I do show support and they of course were not in the game, and 3.) The Hollywood Palms in Naperville, IL had a special deal called “The Super Bowl Strike: Free Movies All Day.”  I’ll get to more on that in just a bit.  The movies I will be reviewing in this post are Man on a Ledge, Red Tails, and Chronicle.  I will review them in chronological order and following the reviews I will give my usual STVO Wire “This Week at the Movies” examination. Let’s get it started

Man on a Ledge:
Before I saw this movie, my weekly analysis for this was “Cliffhanger Meets Phone Booth.”  It was an attempted humorous take on how the movie looked but in all honesty, I had no interest in seeing the movie.  Why did I see it you ask?  Chronicle and The Grey unfortunately were not playing at Hollywood Palms, my friends were not interested in seeing Contraband, and Red Tails closest showing was sold out.  It was free so I settled with this movie.  Anyway, I decided to watch the movie with an open-mind and give it a shot.

The plot is pretty much what it sounds like; a man named Nick Cassidy (played by actor Sam Worthington) enters a hotel and threatens to commit suicide by standing outside of the building.  Why does he want to kill himself?  Well you see Nick is an escaped convict, formerly a police officer that was serving a 25-year prison sentence for supposedly stealing a highly expensive diamond.  Nick Cassidy proclaims his innocence by escaping the prison, assuming a fake idea and proclaiming he will either prove his innocence or “Die as an innocent man.”  Among the spectacle of Nick attracting citizens of New York that are either rooting for his innocence (including a homeless man really showing favoritism towards him) or frustrated citizens irritated at the blocking of traffic, the NYPD try to figure strategies to get him to stay alive and turn himself in.  Along the way, Nick’s brother Joey (played by Jamie Bell) and Joey’s girlfriend Angie (played by Genesis Rodriguez) attempt to find the diamond that Nick was accused of stealing to help prove his innocence by breaking through a well-crafted security system that is holding that particular diamond.  Nick also refuses to speak to any other office with the exception of Lydia Mercer (played by Elizabeth Banks.)

Man on a Ledge was a very cheesy movie as it felt like it was a really clichéd movie featuring a lot of ridiculous situations.  I prefer not to spoil much of the movie, but the twist in the end that helped bring on our happy ending was very corny as it seemed like an attempt at making “an intriguing twist.” The dialogue between Joey and Angie was a lame love story filled with many humorless jokes that one would expect from a sappy sitcom.  The dialogue between Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Banks wasn’t bad but nothing particularly special.  To me though movie does not feel like one that should have received a national release.  It is similar to the movie Phone Booth (a movie I thought was okay) in the aspect that it tries to create a different situation for a movie by centering on one big incident in one centralized setting where a couple event from the past lead up to it and other surrounding events occur.   While I give writer/director credit for this unique twist, it falls flat as a popcorn movie that doesn’t deliver much in regards to story or action scenes (there are some believe it or not.)

Overall aside the creative trick Joey and Angie use to bypass a security camera and Angie being in an unnecessary but (for someone like me) welcoming bikini scene, there wasn’t too much I found redeeming for the movie.  It was a forgettable at best movie and had I’ve paid for the movie; I would have been even more disappointed.  I give Man on a Ledge a 4 out of 10.

Red Tails:
Following the disappointment of Man on a Ledge, I felt I wanted to see a good free movie before turning in for the night.  I was fortunate to receive a ticket to Red Tails.  Prior to this movie my weekly movie analysis for this movie was  Another good-looking movie this week!”  Well fortunately, my examination was correct.  Judging by the previews, I personally thought it looked like an interesting take of African American aircraft fighters during World War 2, but what kind of intrigues me more is finding out this movie was done from a screenplay by John Ridley AND the creator of The Boondocks, Aaron McGruder.  Aaron McGruder to my memory has only written comedy and on top of it for an animated series as well as his syndicated Boondocks newspaper strip.  Being that this movie has George Lucas as an executive producer, it couldn’t be too bad, right?  Okay, don’t answer that…

Red Tails is based off the United States African American Army Air Force group known as the Tuskegee Airmen.  It discussed the hardships the African American pilots had during the World War 2 period where they were considered not nearly as intelligent or worthy of being pilots like the Caucasians were.  Fortunately, a group of soldiers led by Major Emanuel Stance (Cuba Gooding Jr.) were out to prove them wrong.   Along side with the war, the movie features various stories of the different soldiers such as Lightning (David Oyelowo) developing a relationship with an Italian woman (Daniela Ruah), air force new-comer Ray Gun (Tristan Wilds) trying to get the other soldiers to drop his nick name of “Junior” to prove he is a true soldier, and Easy (Nate Parker) who is an alcoholic.  Other issues dealt with in the movie are racism among the white US soldiers and the team taking on the Germany Air Force.

I enjoyed the acting in the movie as well as the aerial combat.  The planes in the movie had somewhat of a shiny toy look to them that some people may like or dislike.  I happened to enjoy it.  The stories were simplistic but very enjoyable and there were definitely a few sad moments (again, I prefer not to spoil it for you guys.)  The soldiers were all likeable.  I won’t say this is a phenomenal movie or a must-own on DVD title, but if you need a movie to watch for the night, you definitely cannot go wrong with this one!  I give Red Tails a 7 out of 10.

Before I move on to the final review of the evening, I would like to throw a quick two cents on the Hollywood Palms Theater.  While I was pleased that the movies were free and are lower than most other theater prices at $8 a movie (as long as it isn’t 3D.)  They do happen to make their money back by making it required that you at least buy one drink (which is around $3 but has free refills).  Because it was Super Bowl weekend I spent a little more than I had wished to in food. The food there is decent (I like the Oreo Pie they have there) but is a little bit pricey for quality.  So I guess it’s your standard movie theater pricing only on a slightly more luxurious scale.

Chronicle:
Ever since seeing the commercials on TV, I was in anticipation of this movie.  I had a slight feeling there was a possibility I could have disliked it, as I typically don’t like movies that use the “shaky camera point of view” such as The Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield.  I don’t get very nauseated by those movies, but for some reason I just never was a fan of that view and I didn’t care much for the overall stories of either.  There was also the possibility that this movie might have shown too much of the good stuff in the commercials.  Fortunately, I never had a problem with either issue I thought that could have occurred.  It’s a simple premise, but a very fun one to watch in motion.

Chronicle features the story about a high school senior named Andrew (Dane DeHaan) a troubled kid who is somewhat of a social outcast and has problems among family in his own household.  He decides to start videotaping his life with a camera through almost every aspect of his life.  His cousin Matt (Alex Russell) encourages him go to a rave in order to be more social.  Along the way, Matt’s friend Steve (Michael B. Jordan) encourages Andrew to follow those two with his video camera to a random hole they find near by the rave.  As they all enter the hole they find a weird material that they find emits weird lights and energy.  The three of them both black out and find themselves with weird telekinetic powers.  They all start off using them for fun tricks, then public pranks, and eventually an obnoxious driver makes Andrew angry as he uses the powers to harm the driver.  After this incident, the groups of friends decide it’s best not to use their powers in anger and to start using their powers more wisely and carefully in public.  As the group uses the powers more together, they grow a stronger friendship, and Andrew becomes more socially active.  As time proceeds, more problems arise.

Chronicle is the classic tale of one gaining super powers and deciding whether to use them for good or evil.  I definitely felt that this movie was similar to anime and video games such as Akira or inFAMOUS for PlayStation 3.  I enjoyed the characters in this movie as well as the story as it shows that while you can benefit from gaining superpowers you could also abuse them and create some very serious trouble when using them wrong.  I really feel people can identify with Andrew, Matt, or Steve whether they maybe a popular kid, an outcast, or just a normal guy.  Except for the ending (classic green screen) I thought the movie’s special effects were very impressive.  There were moments I can sympathize for the characters or just think they are being foolish.  The camera aspect was not distracting to me and for those who have weak stomachs; I think you’ll be just fine with this movie as opposed to the usual shakiness of other first person camera movies.  While it is pushing it, I could see a sequel being done if the movie is considered successful enough.  While I’m in preference of less sequels being made, if one gets announced for this movie, I would likely see it.  I give Chronicle an 8 out of 10.

This Week At The Movies

Now in 6 Words or less, my thoughts on the movies coming out this weekend!

·      Safe House: Promising but I’ll wait for DVD.
·      Journey 2 – The Mysterious Island: Rock, Are you serious Bro?
·      The Vow: I make not to see this.
·      Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace: I’ve never seen it. Should I?

That’s all for me this week. Thank you all for supporting me and getting my Facebook page now up to 100+ Likes! I hope you all have a great weekend coming up and as I end this I will leave three important to me links I would like you to view:

STVO Wire #3 (2/3/12)

Welcome everyone to the third edition of STVO Wire.  It’s SuperBowl weekend and if you’re hear for my thoughts about the big game this weekend, well you’ll be very disappointed because I got nothing.  Trolololololo.  Despite that, I have plenty of geeky things to say about movies, video games, pro wrestling, and more.  If you haven't done so already, I have posted a review for the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble as well as this weekend's The Lady in Black.

DA NEWS

·      Movies/Musicals:  From IGN Movies - Director Robert Zemeckis is looking into a Back to the Future Musical and is in talks with co-writer Bob Gale and composer Alan Silvestri about bringing it into Broadway.

My Take: Well, Back to the Future 1 & 2 are among my favorite movies of all-time but really, a musical?   While it seems like the movie industry is becoming all about remaking movies, the Broadway theaters appear to want to adapt multiple movies in to musicals.  In all fairness, I actually happened to enjoy the Addams Family Musical (which was not based off the movie version, rather its own interpretation involving Wednesday getting older), I would possibly watch the musical if it were to come to Chicago.

·      Video Games: Konami has confirmed that their arcade beat-em up classic, The Simpsons Arcade Game, will be released today on Xbox Live Arcade and on February 7th on PlayStation Network.  If you are PlayStation Plus subscriber, you may download and play the game for free. It will include a 4-player mode, Quarters mode, a one-hit challenge similar to Contra, and players can unlock the Japanese version of the game.

My Take: It took 21 years, but it’s finally getting a home console release (via download)!!!!!!! I’m in preference of my PlayStation 3 over my Xbox 360 so I will opt to wait a few more days to pick it up, but you bet I will pick it up.  Next week I will own three pieces of my childhood arcade experience.  Now if they can bring WWF Wrestlefest it will be complete. Now if they can finally release the rare Captain Bucky O’Hare Arcade game, the Punch-Out Arcade game, and SegaSonic the Hedgehog available on any of the download services, I won’t need to ask for anymore arcade ports from the past. I will have owned and played all that I want to.

·      Wrestling: Confirmed on This Monday’s Edition of WWE Raw,  Former Boxer  “Iron” Mike Tyson will be inducted in this year’s celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame.

My Take: There is quite a bit of controversy surrounding this induction.  People have been calling out the WWE for inducting a man who served three years in prison for rape, a man who has been accused of being a women beater, and a man who viciously bit a part of Evander Holyfield’s ear during a boxing match.  While I don’t condone any of Mike Tyson’s past actions, he is looked upon highly in the boxing world and has actually helped the WWE regain notoriety in their hard times during 1998.  He was recruited to act as special enforcer at the Wrestlemania 14 main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels.  His appearance at this PPV help increased the mainstream’s interest in pro wrestling (specifically the WWE’s) and help gained the growing star of Stone Cold Steve Austin’s popularity on a larger scale.  I believe his contribution to this very event justifies his worth. Especially when Drew Carey is in the celebrity wing for only appearing in a comedy bit during the 2001 Royal Rumble match.

·      Comics: From the National Post - A prequel to Alan Moore’s comic book series “The Watchmen” has officially been announced on Wednesday by DC Entertainment.  Despite Moore being against the idea of a continuation to his high selling comic books, DC is getting some new writers and artists for this series and will be continuing the series without Moore.  Back-stories of the main characters from the original Watchmen series are expected.

My Take: I have not read the original Watchmen.  I do like comic books quite a bit but I am far behind and while I like to read them from time to time, I have a large stack of my own that I need to get through.  Anyway, I have seen The Watchmen movie and for me personally, the only characters who I really enjoyed were Rorschach and The Comedian most of the other characters only somewhat had my interest or didn’t have mine at all, so unless I get to read some more back story about those two, I don’t have too much of a desire to pick up the prequel series.  Another part of this that would bother me as I know it does with many of the Watchmen comic book fans is the fact that the original creator is not involved with the series.  While it’s not a guaranteed to fail venture, lacking the original source of who created the series generally does lose some of the luster a production once had when handed to someone else who may have a completely different vision or is trying to match the original idea of the creator’s plan.  I wish DC luck.

This Week at The Movies
Now in 6 Words or less, my thoughts on the movies coming out this weekend!
·      Chronicle:  With Great Power Comes Tomfoolery.
·      Big Miracle: For me to pay for this.
·      The Innkeepers: Could be interesting.

So What Am I Doing?

Currently Playing:
·      Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – Been slacking, but played a little this week.
·      Pushmo: This game is very addictive, I swear!
·      Word with Friends/Scramble With Friends: Oh Facebook games, you and me playing games involving letters and words with my friends.
·      DDR Supernova 2: Just bought the 2007 PS2 release and I love it! Ah-Ha’s Take On Me, Fat Boy Slim’s Funk Soul Brother, and just other catchy music.  I’m trying to run more but DDR will forever remain one of my favorite exercises.

Next Week, I plan to buy Resident Evil Revelations for 3DS and The Simpsons Arcade Game for PS3 like I reported in Da News.

Watching:
·      Danny Phantom: Just finished the series! I really enjoyed it when it was on Nick, but I didn’t watch it that often.  For a show that ended when the creator wanted more episodes, I thought it wrapped up somewhat nicely and I thought the show had a very nice style and was entertaining. I hope I do Danny Phantom justice when I cosplay him at Anime Central.
·      Claymore: With Anime Central almost 2 months away, it’s time for me to get started on reconnecting with my anime.  A lot of my friends in Facebook-land tell me that this is a good series! I have watched the first episode and it’s very promising.  I always welcome a series with a strong female character.
·      WWE Monday Night Raw: This Monday’s Raw was excellent. While I gave the WWE Royal Rumble a good review (see here) I know there were disappointed watchers.  A lot of people thought this edition made up in a big way and I agree! Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk was an Internet wrestling fan’s wet dream!  I can not wait for these two to have a serious feud and more matches in the future.  Johnny Laurinaitis may not have been fired from HHH (and thankfully the PG rating came into play in a positive way by sparing a Kiss My Ass club segment), we got something to make up for the loss: The Return of The Undertaker!!! Seriously, there were no signs he was returning soon and I don’t remember any news on the pages I read reporting “The Undertaker will Return the Raw after Royal Rumble.” Honestly, it was a very nice surprise, although HHH vs. Undertaker Part 3 isn’t really the match I want to see at Wrestlemania this year. Should be a good bout though.
·      Impact Wrestling: I was very impressed with this week’s edition. Honestly, the show not being set in the Impact Zone was very pleasing, especially pleasing when they were with a loud London, England crowd in Wembley Stadium!  With this and their India promotion, Ring Ka King, I’m thinking Dixie Carter and gang should try to keep their show out of the United States or at least try to find areas where they can have a larger audience other than Orlando, Florida.  The show itself was very good as well. I only saw the last hour, but I really enjoyed seeing James Storm take on Robert Roode as well as Bully Ray in the main event.   TNA also continues to show that they have the superior women’s division with Tara vs. Gail Kim in a non-title match!
·      Currently in My Rental Queue: The Cell and Valkyrie.  Will give mini-reviews as soon as I watch them.

Please Help:
·      Some of you may have heard, but I am actually going to be participating in an MS Walk in Naperville, IL on May 6th as apart of the group Costumers With a Cause.  I am raising money to help find a cure and resources for finding the cure for Multiple Sclerosis.  I have personally donated $10 of my own money and am looking to reach a goal of $500.  I will be participating in the walk with fellow cosplayers and I will be participating in my Danny Phantom costume that is currently under construction. If you would like to help contribute towards my cause, please visit my official MS Walk Page.  In return for your donation, I will write you a personalized thank you either via direct mail or e-mail by whatever you choose. Just let me know either by my Facebook page or by my e-mail at kingstvo@gmail.com. Let me know who you are and how you would like the message.

Preparing
·      Still need to continue more work on my Danny Phantom costume, but I have placed an order for a wig at the Arda Wig’s website. Unfortunately, I won’t be getting my wig until March. If it becomes too late, I will ask for a refund and have to try and buy one elsewhere.
·      23 More Days Until I visit Hawaii!
·      I have an idea what kind of a camcorder I want; I just want my Best Buy to get it in stock. I think I will buy one next week.
·      Giving this site a more personalized layout. I know that I need to stop being lazy. I should be getting a new version of Adobe Photoshop for my Mac soon.  Once I get the camera, I’m hoping to do more video posts for this site as well.
·      Need to do more art! Would like to post some here soon.
·      Signing up for the Chicago Marathon! I believe I shall after this post!

That’s all for this edition of STVO Universe. Please sound off here or on my Facebook page herehttps://www.facebook.com/pages/STVO-Universe/253175679524.
